Short Bibliography:
- Shalaby was graduated from Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University in 1967 and obtained his Ph.D in virology in 1972.
- He has awarded a fellowship to study immunology at Val De-Marn University, Paris, France (1976-1977) and Alexander Humboldt Foundation fellowship to work on parapoxviruses at the Institute of Microbiology, Ludwig Maxmalian University, Munch, Germamy (1978).
- He established and acted as a director of the Center of Analysis and Applied Studies at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University (1989-1997).
- He was appointed as the head of Microbiology Department, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, King Faisal University, Saudi Arabia (1981-1986).
- Shalaby obtained Fulbright fellowship to work with Prof. Ian Tizard on evaluation of cell mediated immunity to some immnostimulants at Pathobiology Department, Texas A&M University (1990-1991).
- He worked as the head of Virology Department, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University between 1997-2003. During this period, he received 2 grants from the Academy of science and technology with a total sum of 1.5 Million Egyptian LE. The first grant aimed to produce monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) and diagnostic kits for infectious bronchitis and reovirus infections in chickens, while in the second grant, a combined engineered bovine rotavirus/corona virus subunit vaccine was produced (2002-2006).
- Shalaby has awarded the National Encouragement Award in Agricultural Sciences from the National Academy of Sciences and Technology (2002), and the Merit Prize of Cairo University in Basic Sciences (2006
- Between 2012 and 2014, he acted as the principal investigator of the project “Application of mobile recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) for the diagnosis of relevant viruses in veterinary medicine”. The project was financed by Alexander Von Humboldt foundation, Germany with a total sum of 65,ooo Euros and was executed as a collaboration between faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University and Institute of Virology, Gottingen University, Germany.
- Shalaby supervised more than 120 MSC and Ph.D thesis in diagnostic and molecular virology, viral immunology, and vaccine production and evaluation.
- He published more than 100 research articles in various aspects of virology and immunology.
- Dr Shalaby is a member of many scientific societies and he is now working as the president of Egyptian Society of Virology.
- He is a member in the National Committees for Promotion of University Staff – Microbiology (Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities),
- He participated as a member of the National Committee of Biological Sciences, Academy of Science and Technology, Egypt (2014 till now).
- He was awarded an extension to Alexander von Humboldt foundation fellowship at the Dept. of Microbiology, Goettingen University (2018).
- Shalaby organized in collaboration with Prof. Peter-Claus Czerny and Dr. Ahmed Abd Elwahed the international Summer School on Imported and Neglected Infectious Diseases at Cairo, Egypt (Sept.16-27, 2018)
- June ,2022,the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AVH) has accepted our project
Entitled “Implementation of Portable Sequencing Technology for Rapid
Identification of Respiratory Viruses in Poultry Acronym: MobLabResp”
(project ID: 3.4-1026128). We aim to establish novel technologies for
- identification and control of emerging and endemic diseases
- Organized and chaired the 7th and 8th International Virology Conference that was held in Hurghada, Egypt November 2018. and 2022
- August 7th chairing the symposium titled” Avian influenza: Global threat with pandemic potential at Steinberger hotel, Cairo.
- 8-13 Auguest,2023 chairing the workshop titeleled “portable sequencing technology for the rapid identification of respiratory viruses in poultry,” at the department of virology, faculty of vet medicine, Cairo university.
- August 29 -24 september,2023 visted Leipzig University to follow-up the bilateral project on Nano pore sequencing and to participate in writing both of final report as well as planning for writing the research paper on the obtaining results from the project .
- Organized the 9th Int conference for virology at Heton hotel Of Alexandria ,October 2025 ,
- May 2026 Renewed the site of the Egyptian Society for Virology ( esveg.org) and Submit the Journal of Virological Sciences at EKB,
